Parent Orientation Programme (Grade 1 and 2)

St. Mary’s International School successfully conducted their Parent Orientation programme for the parents of Grade 1 and 2 at 8.30am in the school auditorium. The main aim of the programme was to familiarize the parents with the Cambridge curriculum and structure of the new academic year. The event was well attended, with the presence of our school Director Fr. Yohan Alphonso, Cambridge supervisor Ms. Sandra Fernandes, school administrator Fr. Savio Dsouza, St. Stanislaus International School Principal Mr. Montwyn Dcosta and the international teachers Ms. Neilette Barboza, Ms. Nicole Gomes and Ms. Saloni Fereira.

The orientation began on a reflective note, with a meaningful prayer conducted by Ms. Barboza. She headed the orientation programme and provided a comprehensive view of the Cambridge curriculum being followed, the teaching methodologies used and the collaborative learning techniques carried out during the course of the year. The presentation emphasized that Cambridge focuses on critical thinking and inquiry-based learning. She highlighted the various techniques used in the classroom which aided in stimulating student curiosity. The presentation effectively showcased the practical application of the curriculum.
Following this, Ms. Gomes focused on the overall structure of the new academic year, with the focal point on the subjects being offered, co-curricular and extracurricular activities expected, time structure of the day and school year. The Cambridge curriculum, assessment structure, role of parents in their child’s journey, realistic expectations for parents, the real crux of Cambridge was further elaborated by Mr. Montwyn Dcosta, the school’s resource mentor. He left the parents with time for some reflective thinking and answered questions raised by them.

The orientation concluded with the Director Fr. Yohan, sharing his vision for the school, which will aid in providing the students with the best. This was followed by a brief tour of the classrooms and school for the parents. The Orientation was enriching and informative.
