This week, our first graders discovered that learning can be both practical and playful. With the help of parent volunteers, students first practiced restaurant etiquette—greeting politely, ordering food, and showing gratitude. Though simple, these skills connect to traditions around the world, where table manners reflect respect and kindness.
Later, the classroom transformed into a burst of colour as students created tie-dye handkerchiefs. Guided by parents, they folded, twisted, and dyed fabric, echoing textile traditions found in many cultures, from India to West Africa. Each handkerchief became a unique piece of artistry.
Both activities challenged students to try new things, make mistakes, and celebrate progress. Whether practicing a “thank you” or watching a swirl of color emerge, our first graders learned that small steps open doors to a much bigger world.
